What Is The Rooted Path™? The operating system for congregational formation.
A nine-step framework built on one conviction: a congregation must be formed before it is sent. Formation before mission. Roots before reach. Translation before action.
The Rooted Path™ is a nine-step congregational formation framework and operating system for faith-based community development. It is built on the foundational principle of Formation Before Mission: a congregation must first be formed in its identity, its relationships, and its capacity to discern before it takes on mission or launches programs. It is the first documented, replicable operating system for this work that is covenantal and theologically grounded rather than transactional.
What it is and what it is not
The Rooted Path™ is not a program. It is not a curriculum a congregation purchases and completes. It is not a consulting engagement where an outside team arrives with answers.
It is an operating system. It changes the way a congregation understands itself, organizes what it already holds, and builds from what is already present rather than what is missing. The framework surfaces gifts, sequences them so they hold, and scales them without losing the formation that made them work.
The field does not suffer from a lack of vision. It suffers from an inability to hold what it learns long enough to mature.
ClearPath Intelligence™ is the technology layer beneath the framework. It carries what a community learns from one season to the next so that insight does not disappear when leadership changes. The framework forms the people. The technology helps the people remember.
Three movements, nine steps
The Rooted Path™ moves in three plain motions. Every one of the nine steps lives inside one of these three movements.
What is already present in the congregation and the community. Gifts, relationships, assets, aspirations, and spiritual capacity that exist before any program begins.
What has been surfaced so it holds. The right order matters. Sequence is not cosmetic. Sequence is formation. This is where the framework becomes a path rather than a list.
What has been formed without losing what made it work. Growth that is rooted rather than reactive. Expansion that carries the formation that produced it.
Every community carries gifts worth seeing. The divine is already present before you arrive. Formation before mission is not a principle. It is a theological confession made operational.
The Rooted Path™ · A. Damian CurdWho it is for
The Rooted Path™ was built for three audiences.
Congregation leaders and pastors
Leaders who are tired of launching initiatives that do not hold. Who sense that the problem is not effort or resources but something deeper in how the congregation understands itself. The framework gives them a path that begins with formation rather than program design.
Denominational networks and intermediaries
Associations, CDFIs, and intermediaries managing networks of congregations who need a replicable framework and shared intelligence platform across sites. The Rooted Path™ is context-agnostic. The language adapts. The structure is constant.
Funders and foundations
Foundations investing in faith-based community development who need an operating system that produces measurable capacity outcomes, not just programs. The framework gives funders a shared reference point for evaluating formation-rooted work across grantees.
What makes this different
Conventional approaches start with what is missing. The Rooted Path™ starts with what is already present. That is not a methodology difference. That is a theological one.

Is The Rooted Path™ a program or a framework?
It is a framework, specifically an operating system. A program is activity a congregation runs. A framework is the structure that makes all the activity coherent. The Rooted Path™ does not replace programs. It gives programs a formation-rooted foundation to stand on.
How long does it take to walk The Rooted Path™?
Formation is measured in seasons and cycles, not weeks. A congregation walking the full nine steps typically moves through the framework over twelve to eighteen months for the first cycle. The framework is designed to compound over multiple cycles, not to be completed once and set aside.
What is the difference between The Rooted Path™ and ABCD?
Asset-Based Community Development is a policy and community development methodology. The Rooted Path™ extends ABCD by adding spiritual gifts as the fifth asset category. That is where community development ends and formation begins. ABCD is transactional. The Rooted Path™ is covenantal.
What is ClearPath Intelligence™?
ClearPath Intelligence™ is the technology layer beneath The Rooted Path™. It operates six engines: GiftScape™, ContextScape™, ResourceScape™, CommunityScape™, Ministry Match™, and Opportunity Match™. The first engine, GiftScape™, is live at rootedpathglobal.com/giftscape.
Where do I start?
